A game of chance and uncertainty, Poker is played from a standard 52-card deck with four suits (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) plus wild cards (jokers in some games). The highest five-card hand wins. Players can bet, check (no bet), call or raise during a betting round. Depending on the game, one or more players may be required to place an initial amount of money into the pot before cards are dealt. These forced bets are usually called antes or blinds.<\/p>\n
Once all players have two hole cards, the first of what may be several rounds of betting begins. A series of three community cards are then dealt, known as the flop, followed by an additional card, referred to as the turn and finally a final card, referred to as the river. The player to the left of the dealer initiates each betting round.<\/p>\n
While poker involves a large degree of luck, many skilled players have managed to achieve a level of skill that can allow them to win consistently. The key is to master a winning strategy and stick with it, regardless of how you feel or whether you are losing or winning. This requires a certain amount of patience, but will eventually pay off. Getting upset when something doesn\u2019t go your way will only hurt your game.
