Poker

Several variants of poker are played. Each variant varies in how many cards are dealt, the number of players, and the rules for betting. The rules for each variation may vary in a specific location. For example, a game with eight players may require a different set of rules than a game with eight players played online. Similarly, a game with seven players may require a different set of rules from a game with seven players played at a club.

Generally, a game is played with a standard pack of 52 cards. Cards may be dealt face up, or face down. The player with the highest poker hand wins the pot. This hand may include a pair of kings, two pair, or a straight flush.

In each round of betting, the first player is responsible for making the first bet. This is called “bet.” The next player to bet is called “raise,” and the next player to bet is called “call.”

A player may also “check,” which means that the player does not owe anything to the pot. However, if the player “checks,” he is required to “drop” his bet. If the player “drops,” he is required to “put in” the same number of chips as the previous players.

If no one has a pair, the high card breaks ties. In some games, wild cards are allowed. Wild cards can be any suit. A wild card can make five of a kind. In other games, the wild card can make a pair or a straight flush.
